Opinion polling

Know what Nigerians think, and how sure you can be.

Carefully designed polls on current issues, organisations, brands and the news, from our verified panel, by phone and face to face. Every result is weighted to the population you need and reported with its sample size, margin of error and method, so it can be quoted with confidence.

The questions it answers

When you need to know what people think, not guess it.

  • How do Nigerians feel about prices, jobs and their own finances this month?
  • What does the public think of a new policy, regulation or price change in our sector?
  • How is our organisation seen, and did this week’s news change that?
  • Which issues matter most to people in each part of the country?
  • What does our audience think about today’s big story?
  • Has opinion moved since the last time we asked?

What we run

Six kinds of poll, one standard.

From a few questions this week to a national tracker over a year. We choose the mode and sample around who you need to hear from.

How we make a poll you can trust

A number is only as good as the way it was made.

We follow the ICC/ESOMAR International Code and the ESOMAR/WAPOR guideline on opinion polls and published surveys.

  • A sample that looks like the populationQuotas by age, gender, zone and urban or rural, then weighting to the latest population estimates, including education.
  • The right mode for the people you needOnline for speed, phone and face-to-face for the people online samples miss. We tell you which we used and why.
  • Neutral questionsBalanced wording, answer options in random order and no leading questions. We do not run push polls.
  • One person, one responseVerified panel members and response checks for speed, attention, consistency and duplicates before anything counts.
  • Honest uncertaintyEvery result comes with its margin of error, and we say plainly when a difference is too small to be sure of.
  • Full disclosureWho paid, when it was fielded, how many took part, how, how it was weighted, and the exact wording of every question.

Our panel

Real, verified people, in every part of Nigeria.

Every member of the Afridence panel is verified and profiled before they are invited, so we can build a balanced sample quickly and reach the groups that matter to your question. Phone and face-to-face interviews fill the gaps an online panel cannot.

How the panel works

Profile data we already hold

  • Age and gender
  • State and LGA
  • City, town or village
  • Education
  • Work and income
  • Languages spoken

Clients see answers, never names: members' personal details stay with Afridence.

What you get

Results you can quote, and defend.

As a single poll, or as a tracker that shows how opinion moves over time.

  • Weighted resultsEvery question, weighted, with sample sizes and margins of error.
  • BreakdownsBy zone, age, gender, education and urban or rural, and by state where the sample allows.
  • Method statementReady to publish alongside the results, so readers can judge the poll for themselves.
  • Press-ready summaryThe headline findings in plain words, with clear charts, for publication or a board paper.
  • Data tables and fileFull tables for every question, and the anonymised weighted data if you want to analyse it yourself.
  • Trend viewFor tracking polls: what moved since the last wave, flagged only where the change is real.

How a poll runs

From question to published result.

  1. 01Agree what you need to knowThe questions, the population that matters (all adults, a region, an audience) and when you need the answer.
  2. 02Write neutral questionsWe draft and review the wording with you, and test it, so it measures opinion rather than shaping it.
  3. 03Field and checkOnline, by phone or face to face, with quotas watched daily and every response checked before it counts.
  4. 04Weight, report and publishWeighted results, the method statement and a short summary, then the next wave if you are tracking.

Independent, whoever pays

We report results as they come. We do not design questions to produce a chosen answer, and we do not run push polls. When a client publishes our results, they publish them accurately and with the method statement; if our figures are misreported, we will correct the record in public.
